Sustainable Use of Resources
- Brodart is loyal to local markets and strives to purchase materials and lumber
from vendors within a 500 mile radius. - Brodart purchases over 70% of our wood from suppliers who
harvest from Forest Stewardship Council Lands. - Products are designed for durability and optimal reusability.
- Our composite wood contains 80% to 100% recycled content minimizing the use of virgin materials.
- Steel used in the manufacturing processes generally contains 100% recycled content.
- Brodart uses several lean manufacturing processes that help eliminate wastes.
Waste Reduction and Recycling
- Brodart recycles 100% of our wood waste via use by secondary sources. In 2008, 376 tons of wood waste was used by a secondary source for fuel. Additionally, 20 tons of sawdust was used by local farms for animal bedding.
- 100% of Brodart’s steel scrap is recycled.
- 100% of waste cardboard is recycled.
- In November of 2008, Brodart implemented an in-house paper recycling program, striving to recycle 100% of paper used in office and manufacturing processes. Since then, Brodart recycles approximately 1 ton of paper waste per month.
Air Quality and Emissions
- For all flat stock furniture items, Brodart utilizes a UV finishing process which is 100% free of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and hazardous air pollutants (HAP).
- Metal furniture and parts are finished via a powder coating system which is also 100% free of VOCs and HAPs.
- Waterborne sealer and topcoats can be used as requested on other furniture items. These finishes contain low VOC and HAP levels.
- Brodart uses a state-of-the-art dust collection system which collects all wood dust generated by the furniture plant. Air from the system is filter and returned to the plant to save heat and provide make-up air.
- All Brodart furniture is compliant with the stringent CARB guidelines.
